Author's Biography

The Kite Runner is a novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965, Hosseini is a physician-turned-writer who has become one of the most prominent and successful Afghan authors in the English-speaking world. His family sought political asylum in the United States in 1980, following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. They eventually settled in California, where Hosseini completed his education.

Hosseini's literary career began with The Kite Runner, his debut novel, published in 2003. The book received widespread critical acclaim and became an international bestseller, translated into numerous languages. It is a powerful story of friendship, betrayal, and redemption set against the backdrop of Afghanistan's tumultuous history from the 1970s to the early 2000s.

Following the success of The Kite Runner, Hosseini continued to write novels that explore themes of family, identity, and the immigrant experience, often set against the backdrop of Afghanistan's history and culture. His other notable works include A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007) and And the Mountains Echoed (2013), both of which have also been well-received and commercially successful.

In addition to his writing, Khaled Hosseini is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. Through his literary and philanthropic efforts, Hosseini has become a prominent voice in raising awareness about the plight of refugees and the challenges faced by the people of Afghanistan.
